Cabinet
Japan
Black and gold lacquered wood
XIX
Meiji era

H. 61 cm - W. 72 cm  - D. 29.5 cm

Small refined cabinet with its base entirely lacquered on all surfaces in gold and black lacquer, with compartments and opening  with two sliding doors, four doors and two drawers. The decorations on the cabinet represent scenes in spring, meaning happiness, love and fortune in Japanese tradition. Like cherry blossom playsages,  in the irises, the fireflies fly away above a running stream. The interiors of the doors are decorated with  swallows playing around the wisteria flowers; the sides and the base are decorated with clouds and waves.

Some lack of lacquer and door handles: restoration quote on request.
